The Board of Control for Cricket in India has denied the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) offer to host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. This world cup was initially scheduled to take place in Bangladesh.
Political unrest in Bangladesh has forced the ICC to examine alternative venues for the tournament. This tournament will occur from October 3 to October 20.
Why BCCI declined to host Women’s T20 World Cup
In an interview with a local news site, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah acknowledged his decision to decline the hosting invitation. “The ICC approached us to host the World Cup, but I have clearly declined,” he said.
He noted India’s ongoing rainy season and the logistical challenges of hosting two World Cups. India had to host the Women’s ODI World Cup next year.
“I don’t want to send any signals that we are looking to hold consecutive World Cups,” Shah said afterwards.
With India out of the running, attention has switched to Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates. These are possible replacement hosts.

The ICC, previously committed to keeping the tournament in Bangladesh, has been forced to reconsider due to the political issues.
An ICC spokesperson stated that the situation in Bangladesh is being closely monitored. “The ICC is closely monitoring developments in coordination with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), their security agencies, and our independent security consultants,” the spokesperson stated.
The International Cricket Council highlighted that all participants’ safety and well-being are their priority before the T20 Women’s World Cup.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, is pushing to keep the tournament despite the hurdles posed by the current political climate and internal conflicts within the BCB.
